Residential Care

Girl with green top

Caritas Care established its residential therapeutic children's home in the 1970s. Situated in Central Lancashire, it is a home for children aged 8-16 years on admission, and can care for up to 5 children and young people of either gender at any one time.

Our team of dedicated and experienced staff works closely with independent consultant therapists to meet the physical and emotional needs of some of the most damaged children who may have experienced physical or sexual abuse. We aim to maximise each child's prospects of returning to family life.

How do we work therapeutically?

Our experienced team of residential workers and external consultants work within a ‘resilience’ model to meet the needs of the children and young people in our care offering:

  • High staff ratio (minimum 2:1; 1:1 and 1:2 also possible where needed)
  • Weekly key worker sessions
  • Resilience model of working
  • Life story work
  • Anger management
  • Art, music, and sensory rooms on-site
  • Clinical psychologist
  • Education Support Worker
  • External play therapists
  • Access to nursing consultancy

Care plans of appropriate support and strategies are tailored to meet the needs of each young person, and reviewed and updated regularly.

Who are the children?

The children and young people referred to Wellington Rd have often experienced a great deal of trauma and difficulty in their early lives, and have been separated from their birth family. Many of our young people have experienced multiple moves of placement, and often have additional needs which require extra help at school, or a place in a special school.

Children and young people we place often have:

  • Experienced multiple moves
  • Experienced abuse
  • Additional needs
  • Siblings placed elsewhere
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Supported contact arrangements
  • Educational statements
