Ewanrigg & Netherton Community Centre - Maryport
For many years Caritas Care was eager to make a significant contribution to the communities of West Cumbria. The Trustees committed the charity to a particular direction which culminated in our taking over a community centre in the Ewanrigg and Netherton areas of Maryport.
The Centre has been refurbished and is the hub of all Caritas Care’s West Cumbria activities. The centre’s staff, supported by a team of over 30 volunteers, deliver a number of projects and activities from this base; it has has rooms for hire, hosts the ‘Ways into Self Employment’ project and has a ‘hot office’ for hire to local agencies. There are facilities available for both indoor and outdoor sports.
The Centre also plays host to Youthport, another project of Caritas Care, which focuses on youth work provision for young people of secondary school age which was started in 2006. The club opens two evenings a week and has a weekly aggregate attendance of 60.
The centre we are currently working on plans to develop the grounds surrounding the building into a community garden.
