Cross Bay walk raises much needed money for Caritas Care

It was 18 September 2010 and more than 600 intrepid walkers gathered at the promenade at Arnside to take part in a Cross Bay Walk led by Cedric Robinson, the Queen’s Guide.

Among them was a group of staff, volunteers and friends representing Caritas Care to raise money for the £75000 appeal for the 75th anniversary of the charity.

The walk had everything, beautiful views across the bay in all directions, sand (in all directions!), 3 (or possibly 4?) rivers to be waded through, the impression we were walking away from our destination at Kent’s Bank (I am sure we were!), the driving rain out in the middle of the bay, the feeling of exhaustion as we crossed the water channels on the last stretch and the feeling of elation once we arrived at Kent's Bank station to catch the train back to Arnside.

It was a job well done, a trek worth making. Thanks must go to all those who walked in solidarity for vulnerable children and adults, to those who sponsored them (and there is still time to add your donation for a single walker or indeed for the whole group) and to those who organised the event. It was at times biblical as we seemed to wander across the shifting sands with twigs to guide our way; twigs that Cedric had marked out some hours before in his careful preparation for our walk, a walk we all felt privileged to have taken part in.
