Local support service for people who are hard of hearing
26th March 2010
Caritas Care’s Bridging the Gap project facilitates a home visiting service which offers information, support and assistance in the use and maintenance of hearing aids and other equipment. To enhance access to this service we run monthly outreach clinics or ‘drop in centres’. We currently offer local services in eighteen of the more remote parts of Cumbria. The Bridging the Gap project workers, supported by volunteers, are based in Carlisle, Warwick on Eden, Barrow-in-Furness and Preston.

If you have difficulty with your hearing aid or find it hard to hear speech on the telephone or TV we can offer support and advice such as:
- exchange batteries for NHS hearing aids
- re-tube, check and clean NHS hearing aids
- offer advice on specialist equipment to aid hearing eg amplified telephones, loop systems, door bells, etc
