Sobia and Akmal are foster carers with Caritas Care; they have two boys who were nine & twelve years of age when they started their fostering journey as a family.

Sobia told us, ‘We always wanted to show the boys that not all children are as lucky as they are, and we wanted them to be a part of the fostering journey, together, with us as a family.’

The main priority was to find the best agency for them, Sobia says, ‘I work for a Local Authority as an Educational Psychologist, so I knew about Local Authority, however, it wasn’t until I replied to the ad with Verve Recruitment, that I found out from Val about the different types of agencies. I never knew that there were fostering agencies that were businesses, and when I did, it didn’t sit well with me.’

‘For me and Akmal, fostering has never been about the money, it is about finding the right match of children and agency to help us to achieve our fostering dream. She told me about Caritas Care in Preston, a Not for Profit fostering Charity, and she arranged for us to speak with them – that was the best move we have ever made, because we knew at once that Caritas Care were the one for us because nothing was rushed. We took our time, and we knew that we would have to wait for the right match; but that didn’t put us off.’

‘For Akmal and me, we know that if you have to wait, good things will happen because these things take time, but, as long as we were a family, we will prepare ourselves for when it happened.’
