Canon O’Neill, the Charity’s Administrator, recognised the need to evolve while staying true to the mission of helping Catholic children. In 1959, he wrote: ‘When we are able to co-operate with statutory bodies, who have a statutory duty towards children in need, we do so gladly, indeed we go further and seek such co-operation, because it is envisaged in the laws relating to children.’ This cooperation continued over the years, balancing the Charity’s identity with State regulations.
