The sudden death of Miss Lamb in 1969 brought to a close the career of a remarkable woman who had served the north of the Diocese since 1936. Miss Lamb was told by the Bishop in 1950 that the Charity could no longer afford to pay her. Such was her commitment to supporting unmarried mothers and their children, she carried on her work unpaid. In 1958 her devotion was recognised by the Pope and she was awarded Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, an honour conferred to clergy and lay people in recognition of their distinguished service to the Catholic Church.
