The 1975 Children Act required local authorities and Charities to work together more closely. This was a time of rapid change in social care, and charities became subject to greater scrutiny and accountability. To reflect changing social needs and increased growth in welfare state provision the Charity changed its name to the Diocese of Lancaster Catholic Child Welfare Society.
