In 2008, changes in equality laws around sexual orientation didn’t align with the Church’s teachings on marriage and same-sex relationships. To continue to offer adoption and foster care services while following the new regulation, the Charity’s Trustees had to make the difficult decision, in consultation with the Bishop of Lancaster, to end our formal connection with the Catholic Church.
The Charity remained true to its Catholic values. After this change, the Charity changed its name to Caritas Care (‘Caritas’ means charity in Latin) and expanded its work, especially in children’s services, opening new offices in Greater Manchester.
