Every day matters for a child waiting for an adoptive family. That’s the message behind the new national You Can Adopt campaign, which Caritas Care is proud to support.
The Every Day is Everything campaign launches as new research from Adoption England and Coram highlights a growing gap between the number of children needing adoptive families and the number of people coming forward to adopt.
The research shows that, at 31 March 2026, around 2,060 children were actively family finding compared with around 640 approved families waiting to be matched. After taking sibling groups into account, the analysis estimates that around 1,580 families were needed, meaning the available pool met around 41% of the need.
The report also highlights that children needing adoption currently spend an average of 646 days without a permanent family after entering care.
Behind every statistic is a child. And behind every day of waiting is a child who could be building relationships. Developing their confidence and experiencing the everyday routines of family life.
Every day can mean everything
The Every Day is Everything campaign focuses on the ordinary moments that make family life – the school run, family meals, bedtime stories, weekend activities, laughter and simply knowing that someone will the there.
For a child who has experienced uncertainty or changes in their early life, these everyday moments can be particularly significant.
The campaign film features former Paralympian and adopted person Ellie Simmonds OBE, The Traitors stars Roxy Hotchkiss and Judy Wilson and post-adoption social worker and former Love Island Winner Sanam Fagan, alongside adoptive families and adoption professionals.
Roxy, who was adopted by Judy after experiencing several foster placements as a young child, speaks about the difference having a permanent family made to her.
She said, “It wasn’t the big milestones that made the difference day to day, it was the ordinary, everyday moments. Hearing the words ‘love you’ before bed each night and knowing someone is always going to be there for me. For a child who has experienced instability, those things mean everything.
Could you be an adoptive parent?
The campaign also aims to challenge some the the misconceptions that can stop people from exploring adoption.
You don’t need to be a perfect parent. You don’t need to have everything figured out. And you don’t have to fit a particular idea of what and adoptive family looks like. What matters is being able to provide a child with a safe, stable and loving home and the commitment to support them as they grow.
At Caritas Care, we know that taking the first step can feel like a big decision. But finding out more doesn’t commit you to anything.
It’s as simple as starting with a conversation and our adoption team can talk you through what’s involved, the children who are waiting, the assessment process and the support available throughout your journey.
You could make a difference to a child’s everyday…and yours!
If you’ve ever wondered where adoption could be right for you, today could be the day to find out more.
