152 organisations call on Government to put children at the heart of recovery

152 organisations call on Government to put children at the heart of recovery

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been widespread, affecting the lives of every baby, child and young person in the country. This generation of children face unprecedented threats to their childhoods. They deserve an unprecedented response.

We are joining 150+ organisations in a call to Government to put babies, children and young people at the heart of the coronavirus response.

Our statement calls on Government to embrace a new vision of childhood and set out their solutions to the pressing issues facing children and young people, including child poverty, mental health, and school closures. You can read the full statement here

Children and young people are joining our call and raising their voices on social media, using #ChildrenAtTheHeart and #PowerOfYouth to share their priorities for recovery.

Join our call and show your support on social media.

What people have to say about our services

I am so grateful to adoption, it allowed us to realise our dreams and created our perfect little family. As I sit here watching my daughter playing in the garden I feel so much pride and I know, forever our baby she shall be.

Lauren, Adopter

They got back to us really promptly; they were friendly and explained the process really clearly at each stage.

Adopter

After their visit to us, we knew we weren’t going to go with anyone else. Caritas Care have been a brilliant support to us from day one. I can ring up anytime and because it’s not a huge faceless agency, I know all the social workers and all the support staff.

Jane & Martin
Foster Carers

I would like to say a big THANK YOU for all the support and care you gave to my daughter and myself.

You made the process seem so enjoyable and easy. Thank you for making our family complete.

Adopter

I don’t mind admitting I was nervous. Suppose I didn’t take to her. But I needn’t have worried. Little Pink was fast asleep in her buggy. She was beautiful and I couldn’t take my eyes off her, wanted to touch her hair, stroke her cheek. She was my granddaughter!

Adopted Grandma

I am the least worried than I have been for 10 years. I feel anything can get nipped in the bud when I’ve spoken to you. I’m 110% Top Banana Happy!

Thank you for the truly wonderful work that you do. I was certain a few years ago that we would have struggled to stay together as a family and without doubt the school placement would have collapsed were it not for the work you did, the expertise you shared, along with the care, kindness, and commitment that you personally gave to us. You have developed a team of very special people to provide a very special service.

Adopter

Thanks so much for your help. You answered so many of our questions and more.

Adopter

We’ve already made so many precious memories with our grandchildren and we’re looking forward to making many many more in the future!

Adopted Granny & Grandad

We saw a few changes in management but I have nothing but respect and praise for the support that my daughter received. I knew I did rant a few times but that was frustration and I hope I was forgiven even sometimes stepping over the line.

I would like to say that while I was away, the support for my daughter was all in place; every shift was covered by two-members of her regular staff and everything went smoothly. All the staff have an affectation for her with high respect for her health and enjoyment for life.

Fab, Really pleased how he has settled in his new home. The new lad who has moved in is nice and they both get on. As long as he is happy, we are happy!

Caritas Care made everything crystal clear to us from the beginning, from the moment we had our first visit from a social worker to the present day.

Philp & Martin, Adopters

Make no mistake this is hard, emotional stuff and at times you do question what you’re doing and why all this personal insight is needed. Our social worker was just brilliant with us and during this time she became one of the family.

Paula, Adopter

From the moment we first contacted them, they were wonderful. The support they gave us was immeasurable. Every member of staff we have met has been warm, welcoming, honest and friendly.

Ruth, Adopter

It’s a privilege to provide a loving home to a child. Somewhere they feel safe, secure and wanted. You don’t need to be a blood relation to be a family.

Gaynor
Foster Carers

My hairdresser had adopted two boys through Caritas Care and from day one the agency was brilliant, the support they gave us was immense. We took it a step at a time – the interview, then a three day training course.

Dawn, Adopter

To any potential LGBT adopters, sometimes you may go into this thinking: ‘Oh we’re going to get a real grilling or going to have to through some extra processes because we’re a same-sex couple’ compared to a heterosexual couple but that’s just not the case.

Philip & Martin, Adopters

Since our daughter has been attending Vision she has become more independent, made new friends and interacts with other young adults. Her confidence has improved so much.

It might be ten years this year but it feels so much longer, like it’s always been a part of our family. Fostering was always going to happen for us, it was just a case of when.

Leanne & Paul
Foster Carers

I chose Caritas Care because it had a smaller, family feel to it and I could tell that support would be there for me and the children.

Emma
Foster Carers

People say it’s (fostering) so rewarding and you get so much back from fostering and it’s true, you do. It’s nice to be in a position to offer a child some stability, security and hopefully happiness.

Jane & Martin
Foster Carers

My daughter certainly had some wonderful carers who were dedicated and devoted to her needs.

When our daughter was given a place at FX the opportunities, experiences of life and fun started. She absolutely loved her days, the activities, going out with all of her friends and having little naps on her bed.

I feel my daughter had an important role in life for people to better their careers and go on to become nurses and paramedics, not forgetting an Assistant Team Leader, which certainly makes me proud.

We both feel like we gained a friend in our social worker, as she’s been there with us throughout the process and probably knows more about us than a lot of our friends. For us, our social worker was like our cheerleader, rooting for us from day one.

Danny & James, Adopters

The agency provides a life-long service to its adoptive families. A wide range of support services are on offer, ranging from informal fun activities for families to individual therapeutic support.

When our daughter was given a place at FX the opportunities, experiences of life and fun started. She absolutely loved her days, the activities, going out with all of her friends and having little naps on her bed.

Having support in the home was so important to myself and my daughter. I needed carers that listened to me and learnt, had compassion and gave me the confidence so I could step back and know that my daughter was being cared for and having a really good life.

Since Becky* has been attending Vision she has become more independent, made new friends and interacts with other young adults. Her confidence has improved so much!

Social workers know their families well. Good-quality matching and support result in stable and secure adoption placements.

Your input has really inspired our team and pulled everyone together.

Head Teacher

Not at one point throughout the whole process did we ever feel judged or criticised for being in a same sex relationship, which made myself and my partner feel at ease. So, don’t worry about that, it’s not even an issue, everyone was very supportive and understood how much we wanted a family of our own.
