The Grand Bazaar was a huge, week-long fundraising event that became the most successful of many efforts by local Catholic churches. Parishioners donated goods and services for sale, with support coming from the highest levels. Pope Pius X contributed a silver crucifix and a holy water font. The event raised an impressive £7,214, enough to purchase 17.5 acres of land on Garstang Road, Fulwood. This land became the site of The Bishop O’Reilly Memorial Orphanage, later known as St Vincent’s Orphanage, which opened in 1896.
