The accounts for the year record a major overhaul of Wellington Road children’s home to improve facilities. The home was then reported to be ‘almost self-sufficient in growing soft fruit and vegetables.’ At this time, children in need of a placement within the Children’s home were referred to the Charity by the local authority; though placements were only offered to children who were baptised into the Catholic faith. The increasing professionalisation of social work was also recognised by the Charity as students training to be social workers were offered a work placement at Wellington Road.
