As fostering and adoption became the main ways to care for children, St. Vincent’s Home for Working Boys and St. Joseph’s Orphanage for Girls closed. John Reynolds’ small mixed orphanage in Lytham, founded in 1917, was redesigned to meet these changing needs. The focus moved toward creating smaller, more home-like environments, especially for older children who might not be fostered or adopted.
