Sarah and Andrew, finding the right time for fostering.
Sarah and Andrew planned to foster; however, they were never really sure when it was the right time to do it.
Sarah said, ‘We wanted to foster whilst our own child was young; however, we thought maybe we should wait until we were both a bit older, and possibly we had more life skills?’
‘However, Andrew is 33, and I am 34, and we realised that by being younger, we would have more energy now and more time to give, so maybe it was better to do it now?’
‘In the end, we decided to go for it.’ ‘We knew that one of us would have to give up work; we both couldn’t work full time. That would be impossible, so we took the leap together whilst I was on maternity leave from my job as a teacher.’
‘We had heard about some fostering agencies that had a different Social worker for the Initial Visit, Home visit and another in Assessment; this was not what we wanted.’
‘Thankfully, we have had the same Social worker, Lucy, with us from day one.’ ‘Subsequently, our relationship has been built over time and grows stronger; it is the foundation of our fostering career.”
